We started the session with a game of ‘The Greatest Dancer’ before our young leader, Fox, helped us to work on our Emergency Aid Badge.
We learnt about the following 4 things:
1. Bleeding
We watched a short video and learnt how to help someone who is bleeding from both minor and severe bleeding. In pairs, the beavers treated minor cuts using a sterile wipe and an island dressing.
2. Asthma
We watched a short video and learnt about asthma and how to help someone who is having an asthma attack. In pairs, the beaver went through the steps required to help someone having an asthma attack.
3. Burns
We watched a short video and learnt how to deal with burns and scalds. In pairs, we practiced cooling the area, covering it with cling film to protect it and seeking help.
4. Unconscious
We watched a short video and learnt how to assess and manage an unconscious person safely.
In pairs, we practiced checking for responsiveness and putting each other in the recovery position.
Well done beavers, you worked really hard to look after each other’s cuts, asthma attacks and burns and were really good at putting each other into the recovery position. One of our youngest members was even able to put a leader into the recovery position!

Lastly, we played a game of ‘Stuck in the Mud’ before getting ready to go home.
