This week, we went to Sophie’s Woodland to build Dens and to make our Lodge Bug Houses.
First we made our Lodge Bug Houses by filling some old plastic bottles tightly with whatever woodland materials we could find.
Then we went off to make our dens. We believe that a den is only good if you can spend a rainy night in it, so we gave each lodge a waterproof cover, our version of a Basha (aka Bivvy Shelter), and asked each Lodge Leader and Assistant Lodge Leader to sit in their den whilst Ant put it to the test.
We awarded a lodge point to Blue, White and Green Lodges because their dens were waterproof. We also awarded an extra lodge point to Blue Lodge because they listened and also put a lot of external coverage on the waterproof sheet to protect it from blowing open if the wind had picked up – well done Blue Lodge!
We then had a quick game of Capture the Flag. Everyone was disappointed that we only had time for one round of the game but we will revisit this great wide game when we next visit the Woodland.
Lastly, before we left the Woodland, each lodge quickly hid their bug houses. Will they be able to find them again when we next visit the Woodland?
A big thank you to our parent helper, Maddy, for coming along to help.
Here are some photos of us enjoying ourselves:
And here is a really short video of Ant at work:
