What a great sleepover we had and what a lot of things we got up to. After we had arrived, settled in and carried out the formal start to our meeting, Ant led a game of ‘Save the Princess’, then Braedon led a game of ‘King’s Footsteps’, then Eagle organised the making of Crown Biscuits. We also celebrated Henry’s Birthday – well done for sharing your Birthday with us at the sleepover Henry!
Next, Ant led a game to find out about 5 Royal Animals (The King’s Horse, The Queen’s Corgi, The King Cobra, The King Penguin and the Queen Bee). After this we had supper, hot dogs/hot chocolate/milk, before Owl led a session of Camp Fire Songs around our indoor fire. The beavers contributed their own songs and rhymes too. We then got ready for bed and, once lights were out, Owl read our bedtime story, ‘The Knight who wouldn’t Fight’. Following an active evening, some of the beavers didn’t get to hear the end of the story and it wasn’t long before everyone was asleep.
On Saturday morning, because all the beavers were still asleep, we delayed our start time by half an hour and, even then, Ant had to walk around playing the rouse, a piece you may recognise from the Remembrance Parade, loudly to wake everyone up. Once we were up, dressed and washed, we had our breakfast, which was egg, bacon and sausage in a bap, with fruit juice, milk and fruit. Some of our young people can really eat!
After breakfast, we washed up (it’s part of a badge!) and finished packing away our tents and possessions. We then split into 4 groups to each learn a magic trick to perform to the Royal Court. We had one where we levitated a playing card, one where we read people’s minds to know which crayon they had chosen, one where we made coins disappear and one where we levitated a spoon behind a tea-towel. After the magic, we made quintains, jousting targets, before taking a break to have a drink and a biscuit and to decorate our crown biscuits.
We finishes our activities with a jousting competition before our final beaver call and reaching the end of the sleepover.
We hope that all the young people who attended, and who were brilliant throughout, had a great time. Thank you so much to Ant, Squirrel, Fox, Owl and Eagle for coming along and doing such a wonderful job supporting our young members, we are lucky to have such great leaders!
To cap it all, our 6 beavers who are moving on at Christmas have now all qualified for their Chief Scout’s Bronze Award, the highest award that a beaver can achieve. Well done, you all fully deserve the award!
Here are some pictures and videos of us enjoying the sleepover.
