We are back for 2020 and we are going to be bigger and better!
Having moved our date for next years event to the 28th March 2020, we are hoping for better weather and to offer more places to Scout Groups and families that weren’t so lucky in getting into the very popular and fantastic ‘Winter Challenge Hike’ on the Ridgeway. We can offer the same distances, we have specific routes for beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorer Scouts and Network. As you might be aware, we had to initially postpone the NL18 Mile Hike in 2019 due to harsh weather conditions, which included ice and snow with an Amber Weather Warning. The main problem in these conditions for the event had been in providing the highest level of support to our participants, support that we pride ourselves on as an Event Team and the infrastructure needed to support the event. Postponing the event was a decision made after extensive consideration and risk assessment. It was certainly not a decision made lightly.
Other things we have improved for 2020 will be a dedicated signing in system that will allow all of our entrants and teams the opportunity to make changes right up to the closing date and make safe and easy payment for the event.
We moving our START LOCATION to accommodate more participants in the event but we can still provide GPS Tracking for all teams entering, full event vehicle support, 2 mile check-points, free parking close to the start / finish line, the best homemade food you can imagine, the friendliest welcome and great great fun as well as the opportunity for you to fund-raise for your Group or Section.
All profits this year from our Event will again stay in scouting in Oxfordshire.
We are thinking ahead and would like you to ‘Save the Date’ for 2020 and this will be on Saturday 28th March 2020. We would ask that you help to support this event in 2020 by keeping the date free in your diary and remember that we will have a Beaver specific 5 mile loop, an 8 mile Beaver and Cub Loop and the full 18 Mile Loop for more adventurous Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Network.
By moving the date to the end of March, we hope to reduce the risk of the weather impacting on our event and also to give teams a more time after the Festive break to arrange their teams and to take part in our event, particularly if they have been unlucky in achieving entry into the Ridgeway Winter Challenge for example.
