This week, we started by remembering Founders Day, which is celebrated annually on February 22nd. Founders Day marks the joint birthday of the man who started scouting, Lord Robert Baden-Powell, and his wife, Olave Baden-Powell, who was heavily involved with starting Girl Guides. It is a global day for Scouts, where we renew our Promise, celebrate, and reflect on the movement’s values. Before renewing our promise, we talked about some of Lord Robert Baden-Powell’s most famous words, which were all about personal responsibility and finding the joy in helping others.
Next, we played a game of Grandma’s footsteps. We has a selection of hats that the beavers had to wear before they could tap Gramdma on the shoulder and Grandma had to wear a lovely long blond wig. To save the beavers from any embarrassment, we are not posting any pictures of them in the wig – they did look good though!
After the game, we started the main purpose of our session – guided painting. Fox, our very talented and artistic young leader, led the session. Here are pictures of the background, with foliage, and the final painting that the beavers were trying to achieve.
There were some real works of art and we fully expect our parents, once they have finished washing the excess paint out of their beaver’s uniform, to frame and display the paintings in a prominent place!
Thank you Fox and really well done, you did a brilliant job!
Here is a video showing some of the painting stages that the beavers went through:
