Endeavour Scouts enjoyed a fabulous trip to Silver Cross Scout Campsite near Swansea from 27th until 31 July.
We were met by Camp Commandant, Andy, a very mature gentleman with an obsession with blue hand-drying paper towel. Andy greeted us with, “Welcome to Silver Cross. Despite the rumours that you might have heard about this camp site being haunted, I can assure you that I have never seen anything strange in my 276 years here.”
We soon settled in and the scouts put up their tents and moved in. They split into three patrols, with a rotating daily rota whereby one patrol cooked, one patrol washed up and one patrol did the general cleaning. They did a fantastic job!
Many thanks to Aubrey and Ian for travelling down from Oxfordshire especially to run the climbing programme for us! This was a real confidence booster, especially when learning back to descend.
What fun was had on our first water session; the name Gorge Walking doesn’t really tell the whole story.
Gwaun Hepste, home of the four falls trail, is absolutely beautiful and, for most, as well as a wonderful walk, was also their second water session.
Our third water session was a trip to the beach to learn how to surf.
Of course, no Scout Trip is complete without camp fires and Fish and Chips on the beach.
Throughout the trip, the two James’ led by example and Lottie never let her guard down once!
We were sad to say “Goodbye” to the campsite and Commandant Andy who seemed to float away on a bed of blue hand-drying paper towel. Unfortunately, all the photos we took of Andy seem to have disappeared too!
With huge thanks to Lottie, James and James for organising and running a fabulous camp!
Well done scouts, you were all amazing and great ambassadors for the Mighty, Mighty, 1st North Leigh!
