The Beavers Experiment!

Woodland Beavers have been experimenting! They used the sugar in the well-known sweets Skittles to experiment with the chemistry concept known as the concentration gradient – that is, that chemicals move from areas of higher concentration to areas of lower concentration in an attempt to equalise the concentration.

Each Beavers came up with a hypothesis (an idea about how something works that can be tested using experiments), then put it to the test. They then came up some fantastic explanations for what they had just seen.

Not one Skittle was consumed during the running of this experiment – well not by the Beavers anyway!

The Beavers also experimented with ways of standing on a plastic cup without it breaking. If you would like to know how this can be achieved, ask a Beaver!
